GSAS, the Global Sustainability Assessment System, is a pioneering integrated and performance-based system designed for evaluating and rating the sustainability impacts of buildings and infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Developed by the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) in collaboration with leading institutions, GSAS aims to enhance the design, construction, and operation of buildings while addressing the unique sustainability challenges of the MENA region. It draws upon best practices from 40 different regional and international rating systems and has been endorsed by major projects such as the FIFA 2022 World Cup and Lusail City. GSAS is committed to creating a sustainable built environment that minimizes ecological impact, conserves resources, and enhances human well-being while considering the specific social and cultural needs of the MENA region.
