The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) is a non-profit, participatory association and Europe’s largest network for sustainable building. Established in 2007, the DGNB aims to actively shape the transformation of the construction and real estate industry, promote understanding of the need for sustainable building, and anchor it in the public consciousness. The organization offers certification, events, and educational resources for various stakeholders including architects, planners, municipalities, builders, investors, real estate industry professionals, owners, tenants, and product manufacturers. The DGNB’s holistic approach to sustainability extends beyond green building and encompasses environmental, social, and economic considerations. Through its DGNB System, the organization provides a framework for assessing sustainable buildings and districts, with more than 10,000 projects in around 30 countries having received DGNB certification. Additionally, the DGNB Academy offers training and certification programs to become a sustainability expert in the built environment.
